Chart of zero-click Google searches from 2016 to 2026, by SparkToro and Similarweb

Less Than a Third of Google Searches Still Send a Click

SparkToro June 8, 2026

Rand Fishkin (SparkToro) and Similarweb report that 68.01% of US Google searches ended without a click in the first four months of 2026, up from 60.45% in 2024 and roughly 45% a decade ago. They tie the acceleration mainly to AI Overviews, now on 20%+ of searches and cutting CTR by nearly 60%.

Why it matters: Visibility inside AI Overviews matters more than ever. If I were working in-house, I would shift more of my reporting toward impressions and presence within AI Overviews.

  • Google's May 2026 Core Update's Results

    Glenn GabeJune 10, 2026

Glenn Gabe analyzes Google's May 2026 core update, which landed within about 48 hours and hit YMYL verticals like gambling hardest. He also flags a site that lost big after mass-producing low-quality AI translations, and notes Grokipedia surged during the update before a likely decline again.

  • Bots Overtake Human Traffic Worldwide

    Cloudflare RadarJune 4, 2026

Cloudflare Radar now shows bots generating 57.4% of worldwide HTTP requests against 42.6% from humans, a tipping point Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince did not expect before late 2027. He attributes the rapid shift to the surge of automated traffic from AI agents.

Why it matters: This makes technical SEO more critical than ever, especially crawl budget on large sites. LLM crawlers are far less capable than Googlebot, so I now give them extra care to stay visible in this new search era.

  • A Framework for Forecasting the Traffic Impact of SEO Fixes

Search Engine LandJune 11, 20269 min read

Adam Heitzman lays out a five-step framework for forecasting the traffic impact of SEO fixes: define scope, pull current exposure from Search Console, estimate lift from past projects and competitor benchmarks, and present conservative, expected, and aggressive scenarios instead of one number.

Why it matters: Projecting impact is essential to demonstrate the value of your actions and justify the time and money invested. Inside a company, teams compete to get their projects greenlit, and in SEO it is often hard to tie an outcome to a specific action. That is exactly what AEM Sites Optimizer and Adobe Brand Visibility address: every opportunity comes with a projected outcome, which makes it possible to prioritize.

Test of whether AI assistants render JavaScript when grounding

Do AI Assistants Render Your JavaScript When Grounding?

Andre Alpar June 16, 2026

Andre Alpar's team tested 12 AI assistants with pages whose real values were only revealed via JavaScript, then checked server logs to see who actually executed the code. US assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Meta AI, Copilot) read only the raw HTML, while the Chinese assistants (DeepSeek, ERNIE, Qwen, Kimi) and Europe's Mistral rendered the JavaScript.

Why it matters: Yet another study on JavaScript execution, and the takeaway holds: I still server-render or pre-render critical content into raw HTML.

  • Google Cloud Introduces the Open Knowledge Format for AI Agents

    Google CloudJune 12, 2026

Google Cloud introduced the Open Knowledge Format (OKF), an open standard for storing the context AI agents need as simple markdown files with a bit of YAML. The goal is a shared, portable format so any agent can read knowledge written by any team, without custom integrations.

Why it matters: Markdown keeps coming up as the format agents prefer, and seeing Google push an open standard around it reinforces where things are heading.

  • Similarweb chart of Gen AI website traffic share over the last 12 months

Similarweb: ChatGPT's Gen AI Traffic Share Falls as Gemini Surges

    SimilarwebJune 11, 2026

Similarweb's latest Gen AI traffic-share data shows ChatGPT's worldwide dominance eroding: from 76.4% twelve months ago to 52.7% last month, while Gemini climbed from 8.9% to 27.3%. Claude also jumped from 1.6% to 8.9% over the same span, with DeepSeek, Grok, Copilot, and Perplexity trailing in low single digits.

Why it matters: In the GEO era, optimizing for a single platform the way we did for Google in SEO is not an option. You have to account for each platform's specifics and track your visibility across all the LLMs to get a reliable overall picture.

  • Ahrefs: 97% of llms.txt Files Are Never Read (137K-Site Study)

    AhrefsJune 15, 202619 min read

Ahrefs analyzed 137K domains: 28% publish an llms.txt file, but 97% of those files were never fetched once in May 2026. Among the few that were read, the visitors were mostly generic bots and crawlers (80.5%), with very little traffic from the AI search engines with GPTBot and Claude-Code leading and AI retrieval bots like PerplexityBot and OAI-SearchBot at only 1.1%.

Why it matters: Once again, the data shows an llms.txt file does not necessarily improve visibility, but it can help and costs almost nothing to implement, so it is still worth doing.

  • 79% of Claude's Citations Come From Brave's Top 10

Josh Blyskal (Profound) matched ~35K cited URLs across 400 queries against Claude's fan-outs and found 79.2% of Claude's citations come from Brave's top 10, so Brave effectively powers Claude's search layer. Claude's citations align far more with Brave than with Google (34% of Google's top 10, 64% of top 50, versus ChatGPT's 21% and 37%).

  • An Experimental API That Serves AI Agents a Compressed Version of Your Pages

David McSweeney built an experimental 'agent-friendly' API that intercepts known AI user agents at the Cloudflare edge and serves them a deterministic ~200-300 token markdown summary of each page, plus instructions to retrieve more (full document, a section, or page and site-wide search). He is tracking every agent session to test whether serving an optimized version actually lifts citations; in the first 24 hours, agents stopped at the summary and none queried the API.

Why it matters: There is currently a debate over whether LLM crawlers can actually retrieve content served through an API, so I'm waiting for the results with curiosity.

Adobe introduces Adobe Brand Visibility

Adobe Introduces Adobe Brand Visibility

Adobe June 17, 2026

Adobe introduced Adobe Brand Visibility, a unified solution pairing Semrush's AI visibility intelligence with Adobe's LLM Optimizer. Drawing on nearly 300 million real AI search prompts, it tracks brand mentions, share-of-voice, and content gaps across ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Copilot, and Perplexity, and offers auto-optimization that deploys in minutes.

Why it matters: This is the first product release since Adobe acquired Semrush. As an SEO/GEO specialist, what excites me is how Adobe Brand Visibility combines Semrush's market intelligence, prompt visibility tracking, and concrete opportunities to optimize a site for better online visibility. This is a really promising initiative.

Suganthan Mohanadasan June 14, 2026 7 min read

Suganthan Mohanadasan built free tooling to turn any site into a bundle for Google's Open Knowledge Format: a web generator that crawls up to 100 pages and exports a clean, cross-linked OKF bundle, plus a WordPress plugin that builds and serves it at /okf/ automatically and rebuilds on every edit.

  • Google Adds Gemini Tools for Google Profile

    GoogleJune 10, 2026

Google is rolling out Gemini features for small businesses that connect to Google Business Profile in one tap, letting the assistant analyze performance data, draft review replies in the brand's voice, and update profile details like hours and posts.

Why it matters: The Google Business Profile interface has never been very user friendly, and managing a profile was rarely a pleasure so thank you Google for making our lives easier with Gemini!

  • Marketing Skills v2.4.2 Adds an OKF Reference to Its AI SEO Skill

    Corey HainesJune 15, 2026

Corey Haines released an update of his free open-source set of marketing skills, adding coverage of Google's Open Knowledge Format (OKF) to the /ai-seo skill. It ships a concise OKF reference (spec, frontmatter, examples), shows where OKF fits alongside sitemap.xml, robots.txt, llms.txt, and schema.

Why it matters: Google just introduced OKF, and if you want to try it on your own site, I think this free open-source skill is a handy starting point.

  • Ahrefs Releases a Free Domain Rating API Endpoint

Ahrefs released a free Domain Rating API endpoint that returns a domain's DR based on its 100-point logarithmic measure of backlink-profile strength, with no API key required.

Why it matters: Ahrefs keeps pushing its API forward as the industry shifts and more people build their own SEO tools. I don't find DR especially useful on its own, but if you want to build a backlink strategy and quickly check a site's relative authority, this endpoint can be handy, and it has the merit of being free.
